Grand Peace Rally Of FNCCI Against Shutdown Of CPN-Maoist

Issue 46, November 17, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 14, 2013: challenging the 10-day shutdown called by the 33-party alliance commanded by the CPN-Maoist, the ‘Peace Dialogue Coordination Committee’ of the Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has held a grand peace rally at Tundikhel in Kathmandu yesterday.

Processions of private motor vehicles, motorbikes, and humans came from different roads to the Tundikhel, and merged to a rally there. At the rally, leaders of the business community spoke against any shutdown called in any name stating any shutdown would not benefit anybody but harm the entire country.

None of the cadres of the 33-party alliance has shown up openly against the grand peace rally, and none of them attempted to disrupt the rally. No petrol bombs no setting fire on vehicles have occurred during the peace rally.

However, leaders of the CPN-Maoist have not surrendered to the people’s will for no shutdown, yet. Speaking at the interaction held at his residence, Chairman of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidhya has said that his party has no alternative but to resort to the shutdown, as the four-party political leaders have not listened to him.
