Impeach President To Elect A New One

Issue 50, December 15, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 14, 2013: speaking at an interaction event in Kathmandu yesterday, a senior NC leader has challenged CPN-UML leaders to garner two-thirds majority in the Constituent Assembly to impeach the incumbent President to replace him with a new one, nepalnews.com writes.

NC leader Dr Narayan Khadka said that political parties had not mentioned anything about replacing the President in their election manifestos and that the people’s mandate was not to change the incumbent President Dr Ram Baran Yadav.

He said although CPN-UML was for changing the President, the people’s mandate was to ensure the much-awaited constitution within a year rather than replace the President.

Speaking at the same platform, general secretary of RPP-N Chandra Bahadur Gurung said that fresh elections to the positions of President and Vice President should be held honoring the new people’s mandate.

However, Gurung said his party would not claim for anyone of the positions, and would not join the government but play a role of a responsible opposition. “If all political parties join the government then it would give rise to totalitarianism. That is why we would remain in the opposition and closely analyze the workings of the government,” he said.
