CPN-Maoist Demanding A Roundtable Table Conference

Issue 51, December 22, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 16, 2013: CPN-Maoist that boycotted the elections to a new CA on Nov. 19, has repeated its demand for holding a roundtable conference on ending the political deadlock in the country, the party said today after completing the weeklong central committee meeting; the party also said it could join the government if its demand for a roundtable conference were met, according to the Xinhua news.

At the central committee meeting, the party also decided to stay out of the CA. It repeated that the CA could not bring a political outlet to the country and craft a new constitution.

"We are for the dissolution of the new CA because it would polarize the politics instead of writing a new constitution," Party Secretary Dev Gurung told the media after the central committee meeting.

The CPN-Maoist has said that its decision on boycotting the CA elections has put the party in a parallel and alternative to the national power in the current political situation. The party has made such a decision at a time when some parties are exploring ways to include it in the constitution crafting process. The CPN-Maoist also is preparing to take its issues to the street to press the other parties to met its demands.
