Issue 32, August 10, 2008

BY KTM Metro reporter in Kathmandu

On Monday, August 04, 2008, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala returned to Nepal after attending two-day SAARC Summit held in Colombo on August 02 and 03, and meeting with several Indian leaders in New Delhi on August 04. His plane was supposed to land early in the evening but landed only at 8:00 P.M. for some reasons. He did not bother to talk to the reporters and went straight to his official residence at Baluwatar, Kathmandu.

On August 03 Prime Minister Koirala met with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the SAARC Summit. In this meeting Prime Minister Singh told Prime Minister Koirala that he was for a national consensus government; he also was going to form a consensus government in India according to the international online news.

Then, Prime Minister Koirala flew to New Delhi on August 04 and has had talks with Indian Congress-I leader Sonia Gandhi, Foreign Minister Pranav Mukheerjee, opposition leader LK Advani. All of them advised Prime Minister Koirala to form a national consensus government in Nepal.

Coincidently or intentionally, on the very day of the return of Prime Minister Koirala, the Nepali Congress leaders agreed on forming a national consensus government in Nepal. They have been resisting forming a new government since after the election for the Constituent Assembly held on April 10, 2008.
