Attempts On Breaking Current Political Deadlock In Nepal
By KTM Metro Reporter
September 15, 2012: the three major political parties are scheduled to hold a meeting today to break the current political deadlock but they have deferred it until Sunday; the NC and the CPN-UML will hold talks to form a common platform before the three-party talks, according to nepalnews.com.
Talking to journalists in Gajuri, Dhading district today, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal said that the CA could be revived for a short period if an agreement were reached on all topics of a new constitution. The CPN-UML chairman arrived at Gajuri to inaugurate his party's Dhading District Representatives Council Meeting, according to RSS news.
The Head of State has called a meeting of the top leaders of UCPN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML and UDMF on Sunday, September 16, 2012 to push them for a solution according to the press advisor Rajendra Dahal to the Head of State President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, writes myrepublica.com
Talking to Republica, NC CWC member Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said that it was high time for the president to step in to resolve the deadlock. "The current crisis should not continue for long. There must be a new government in place at the earliest," myrepublica.com quotes Dr. Mahat as saying. Dr Mahat also said that the president should now ask the parties to name a consensus candidate for the prime ministerial post. "If the parties fail to name a consensus candidate, the president should appoint the person who commands the support of majority parties as the new prime minister," he further said. "The president can then entrust the prime minister so appointed with forging consensus."
Comments: as a cadre of NC: Democratic Party, Dr. Mahat did not feel it shame to talk in such undemocratic manner. First, how he would find majority votes in absence of a parliament or CA; second, how could the Head of State not the president of NC dissolve or form a new government in absence of a parliament? Unfortunately, the so-called Democratic Party leaders even did not try to understand the basics of democracy for the love of power. These guys also did not want to understand that inciting the Head of State to step in the power game they would lead the country to a serious conflict and violence, as the current ruling coalition would not leave anybody in peace if somebody attempted to grab power going beyond the constitution.
