Supreme Court Of Nepal Serves Subpoena To Government

May 31, 2011: hearing on the case filed by the human rights activists challenging the government appointing Agni Sapkota allegedly involved in kidnapping and killing a man during the conflict to a Minister for Information and Communication, the single bench headed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal Khil Raj Regmi has yesterday served a subpoena to the government, prime minister and the office of the Council of Ministers asking them to submit the reasons for appointing the man allegedly involved in kidnapping and killing to a position of a minister, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes.
Agni Sapkot has been charged with the involvement in kidnapping and killing of Arjun Lama in the Kavre District six years ago but in the summer of 2007, the District Police Office of the Kavre District refused to register the case stating all the incidents occurred during the conflict would be taken by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. In the autumn of 2007, the Supreme Court of Nepal has ordered the District Police Office of the Kavre District to register the case.
