Current Government Becomes Defunct If Term of CA Not Extended

Issue 22, May 30, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

May 26, 2010: speaking at the interaction held by the Federation of Indigenous and Ethnic Communities of Nepal in Kathmandu, Chairman of Constituent Assembly Subhas Nemwang has said that following the expiry of the Constituent Assembly on May 28, 2010, the Constituent Assembly, the Legislature Parliament, and the current government would automatically become defunct; and a caretaker government would need to run the state administration. In this case, the caretaker government would not be able to restore the Constituent Assembly and the legislature; so, there is no alternative to amend the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 and extend the term of the CA for the continuity of those three state institutions.
