Celebrating Sonam Lhosar In Nepal

February 11, 2013: the Tamang community has been celebrating the Sonam Lhosar. This is a New Year celebrated in the name of different animals. This New Year 2849 is the year of Snake.

Gurung, Tamang, and Sherpa communities celebrate Lhosar in different times. Gurungs have celebrated Tamu/Tola Lhosar in December, Tamangs are celebrating Sonam Lhosar in February, and Sherpas will celebrate Gyalbo Lhosar in March following the Mahayan sect of the Buddhism in Nepal and abroad.

On the occasion of the Sonam Lhosar, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Vice-President Pramanand Jha, Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, and other political leaders have expressed good wishes to the Tamang community.
