Prime Minister Calls off China Visit

Issue 17, April 26, 2009

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

In view of the current serious political situation in Nepal, Prime Minister Prachanda cancelled his China visit scheduled for the next week.

The controversy over the explanations sought by the government from the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) has created a fluid political situation. The main opposition party Nepali Congress has been using this issue as an opportunity of fighting for coming back to power standing on the shoulders of the army despite it has lost the people’s trust, ignoring the possible disastrous political fallouts from it according to the impartial political analysts.

Some of the Maoists are for taking the strong actions against the CoAS for not following the government’s orders whereas the leaders of the CPN-UML are well divided into the camps of for and against taking the actions against the CoAS.

Leaders of the Madheshi People’s Rights Forum are for taking the actions against the CoAS but keeping low profile on this issue.

Some other political leaders think that let the CoAS complete his natural term as the term is ending after three months instead of sacking him before the completion of his term.
