China prints 50 million copies of Bible

On December 09, 2007, a China-based Christian group announced that it had printed 50 million copies of Bible for Chinese believers. Head of the State Administration for Religious Affairs, Ye Xiaowen said that the Chinese government respects and protects religious freedom and supports, as always, printing and publishing Bibles in China. The Amity Printing Company affiliated to the Amity Foundation printed 50 millionth copy of Bible in mid September in addition to nine million copies of New Testaments. About 43 million copies of the complete Bible including the copies in Braille and eight minority languages were for believers on the Chinese mainland. The remaining seven million were for exporting to over 60 countries and regions around the world. In recent years, about three million copies of Bible rolled off the press every year, the company said. (Source: Xinhua)
