Power-Cut Free Areas

Issue 01, January 04, 2009

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On December 31, 2008, the State-run utility company called Nepal Electricity Authority announced that certain areas would have no power-cuts, as they are strategically important areas. They are the areas of the residences of the President, vice-president and Prime Minister, army headquarters in Kathmandu, and state-run hospitals. Private hospitals would not have such benefits.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Water Resources said that the Nepal Electricity Authority would import 40 MW from the Far Western Nepal called Tanakapur area and would join the national electricity grid on January 01, 2009; and Nepal Electricity Authority would produce 35 MW from the Mid-Marsyandi Power Plant in February and join it to the national electricity grid. This much of power would not reduce the power-cuts but would certainly help in mitigating the power-cuts.
