Labor Organizations Marking 124th May Day In Nepal

Issue 18, May 5, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

May 1, 2013: All 11 trade unions including three major ones such as Nepal Trade Union Congress-Independent (NTUC-I), All Nepal Trade Union Federation (ANTUF), and General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) have marked the 124th International Workers’ Day today. They have separately held different events in Kathmandu, and other major towns across Nepal.

Trade Unions are affiliated to the political parties. Leaders of the trade unions are royal to the political leaders than to the laborers they lead. Naturally, they work for achieving the political gains for their leaders than for the welfare of the laborers they represent.

In a statement issued on the occasion of the International Labor Day today, Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi urged all trade unions to help the government in holding the upcoming polls successfully, actively participating in the elections and cooperating with the government for peace in the country, according to nepalnews.com.
