By KTM Metro Reporter

March 9, 2011: a largest Buddhist temple and meditation hall called Lumbini Udyana Mahachaitya (LUM) is going to be opened in Lumbini: the birthplace of Lord Buddha in Nepal on April 4, 2011. Trungram Gyaltrul Rinpoche will preside over the opening ceremony.

Lord Buddha was born in Lumbini of Nepal as a prince called Siddhartha in 583 B.C. He renounced the princely luxuriously life and left the palace to adopt an ascetic lifestyle and went in search of a solution to end human suffering. After six years of intensive study and research, he got enlightenment more than 2500 years ago.

Construction of this eco-monastery is started off in 2006. LUM becomes the largest Buddhist temple with a meditation hall in Lumbini after it opens in April. It does not depend on the public erratic electricity supply, as solar panels fitted to it generate sufficient energy for lighting it; in addition, it also harness natural light, News.cnet.com reports.

Harvard Ph.D. holder Trungram Gyaltrul Rinpoche is the leading figure of building the LUM. He has been personally involved in designing the LUM for making it a modern hybrid monastery incorporating the Shariputra's monastery found at Nalanda University and Nepalese architecture with Tibetan artworks for beautification, Prnewswire.com writes.
