Issue 25, June 22, 2008

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On June 19, 2008, one of the senior Maoist leaders Mohan Vaidya speaking with the reporter on the Radio Nepal said that the three major political parties such as the CPN-Maoist, the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML are closer to the political package settlement.

The political package consists of 1) Amendment to the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007, 2) Confidence building among the political parties, 3) power sharing among the political parties.

He said that all three political parties have almost reached an agreement on the first two items of the package and would reach the agreement on the third, too, soon.
He also said that the Young Communist League would not keep the semi-military status, as the peace process has been moving forward.

He also said that his party would not accept the seven-point preconditions put forward by the Nepali Congress, and would not accept Girija Prasad Koirala the president of Nepal but would like to give him an honorable position.
