Nepal Army Welcomes Army Integration

January 29, 2011: talking to the reporters at a news conference held at the army headquarters on January 28, 2011, spokesperson for the Nepal Army Brigadier General Ramindra Chhetri has said that the Nepal Army (NA) will follow the decision made by the government on the integration of Maoist combatants with the Nepal Army in accordance with the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007, and the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) the government has reached with the Maoists, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of January 29, 2011 writes.
"Nepal Army (NA) has clarified that it does not want to be an obstruction to the peace process but rather wants to cooperate with the ongoing peace process," Brigadier General Chhetri said, however, the CPA has nowhere mentioned bulk integration of Maoist combatants into the Nepal Army.
Answering to the questions of the reporters, Brigadier General Chhetri has said that the CPA has clearly stated that the monitoring of Nepal Army will automatically end after the election to the Constituent Assembly.
