On March 28, 2009, the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) is staging a nationwide protest against the killing of its cadres called ‘Prachanda Thaiba’ in Butwal. Chairman of the CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal would lead the protest.
Cadres of CPN-UML have continued the burning of tires, plastic water tanks, and furniture on the streets in Butwal. The local administration has imposed curfew to bring the situation under control.
General Secretary of CPN-UML Iswore Pokharel submitted a memo to the Prime Minister on March 27, 2009 demanding the strong actions against the killers. The CPN-UML has been charging the cadres of the Maoists for killing ‘Thaiba’. However, the cadres of the Maoists have denied their involvement in killing ‘Thaiba’.
Prime Minister Prachanda assured General Secretary of CPN-UML Iswore Pokharel of taking strong actions against the killers and told him that he had already instructed the Home Minister and other concerned state agencies to bring the killers to justice.
