Clarifications From Former Home Minister

Issue 17, April 25, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

April 21, 2010: the legislative Committee on State Affairs has questioned former Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula and former Secretary to Home Ministry Umesh Mainali concerning the abuse of the public funds for procuring the logistics to the Peace Mission of Nepal Police to Sudan according to the state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ of April 21, 2010. Both the former Minister and Secretary have denied their involvement in the misuse of the public fund for procuring the logistics for the peace mission of the Nepal Police to Sudan.

The police authorities have procured equipment and vehicles for the peace mission of the Nepal Police to Sudan drawing the money from the Police Provident Fund. Finding the equipment and vehicles of sub-standard, the UN has refused to reimburse Rs 34 million used for purchasing such sub-standard equipment and vehicles causing the loss to the Police Provident Fund.
