Fourteen States For Federal Republic Of Nepal

On January 20, 2010, the Constituent Assembly Committee on State Restructuring and Power Sharing has passed the proposal for 14 states with the majority votes. The Committee has also decided to take only one proposal to the Constituent Assembly by the majority votes. The Committee has prepared two different proposals: one for fourteen states and another for six states.

Fourteen states are 1) Khaptad with state capital Dipayal Sillgadhi, 2) Tharuhut with state capital Gulariya, 3) Karnali with state capital Birendranagar, 4) Magrat with state capital Tansen, 5) W. Madhesh Lumbini with state capital Siddharthanagar, 6) Tamuvan with state capital Pokhara, 7) Narayani with state capital Bharatpur, 8) Tamsaling with state capital Chautara, 9) Nevah with state capital Kathmandu, 10) Sunkoshi with state capital Kamalamai, 11) Madhesh with state capital Janakpur, 12) Kirant with state capital Triuga, 13) Limbuvan with state capital Ilam, 14) Birat with state capital Damak.

At the last moment, the Committee has changed 5) W. Madhesh Lumbini into Lumbini-Avadh-Tharuvan and 11) Madhesh into Mithila-Bhojpura-Koch-Madhesh.

Six states are 1) Karnali with state capital Surkhet, 2) Lumbini Bhavar with state capital Ghorahi, 3) Gandaki with state capital Pokhara, 4) Sagarmatha with state capital Kathmandu, 5) Sirjanga with state capital Dharan, and 6) Simraungadh with state capital Janakpur.
