July 19, 2013: Small Farmers Development Bank and the Embassy of Israel have jointly arranged an advanced 10-month-on-the-job training on agriculture in Israel for about 200 students belonging to the families of small farmers’ families, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’ The training will be held at Arava International Center for Agricultural Training (AICAT) in Negev, Israel.
An orientation event was held in Kathmandu yesterday to the first batch of 55 trainees that will be leaving for Israel by mid-August to familiarize them with the various aspects of their training and the adaptation in Israel.
Speaking at the event, Vice-chairman of National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr. Rabindra Kumar Shakya said that Nepal could learn a lot from the agricultural development in Israel. Though we have plenty of resources for the development of the agriculture we are unable to exploit them because of the lack of advance knowledge and skills in doing so, said Vice-chairman Shakya.
Secretary to Ministry of Agriculture Development Dr. Prabhakar Pathak urged the trainees to acquire valuable skills and knowledge at the training in Israel and assured them of the government creating a favorable environment to apply their skill for the development of the agriculture in the country.
Ambassador of Israel to Nepal Hanan Goder has said that trainees are going to Israel for getting advance agriculture skills required for the agricultural development in Nepal. Some countries are attracting skilled manpower from Nepal for the development of their own country, but our motive is to transfer our knowledge and skills to the Nepalis for the development of the country, he said.
The on-the-job training includes one-day theoretical classes and five-day research-oriented practical training every week.
