Ever-burning Peace Lamp From Nepal To South Korea

March 23, 2013: in order to spread the correct information on where Lord Buddha was born, the Nepalese Ambassador to South Korea and Du Sangsa: the South Korean organization related to the Buddhism signed off an agreement on January 6, 2013 to take the ever-burning peace lamp from Lumbini of Nepal where Lord Buddha was born, to Korea. The peace lamp will be put on display throughout the festival of celebrating the anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha in South Korea, and then, it will be placed at a monastery located at the top of the hill in Seoul, according to ‘Gorkhapatraonline.com news of yesterday.

The publicity of the peace lamp would help spread the correct information on the birthplace of Lord Buddha at the international level that the birthplace of Lord Buddha is Lumbini in Nepal, not other country, as several Indian books and movies have been spreading the wrong message of the birthplace of Lord Buddha as India.

“Many foreign citizens have wrong perception that Buddha was born in India. The programs are being organized abroad to clear all confusions about the birthplace and wrong information”, said Madan K.C, former president of Nepal-Korea Business Association. He said that the peace lamp was being taken to Seoul aiming to strengthen the message of peace across the world, according to the Gorkhapatraonline.com news of yesterday.

Each year thousands of Buddhists participate in a special program called “Lotus Festival” on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Lord Buddha in Seoul. More than 25 countries hold special cultural programs depicting the life of Lord Buddha on the streets of Seoul. This time, Nepal also is taking part at the cultural program, and the ever-burning peace lamp will be the main attraction to the people participating in the festival.
 
“Millions of people will take part in the festival, and the message that Nepal is the birthplace of Gautam Buddha will be spread among the large number of people with the help of the peace lamp,” K.C said, according to the Gorkhapatraonline.com.
