Widening Portion Of Ring Road To Eight Lanes

May 4, 2013: the Government of Nepal with the assistance of China is widening the portion of the Ring Road from Kalanki to Tinkune in Kathmandu. The length of this Ring Road is 9.5 km, and the width of the road will be 50 meters. It will be eight lanes. The construction work on this portion of the Ring Road was supposed to start off on May 1, 2013 but the Nepal Electricity Authority and the Nepal Telecom have not completed the shifting of poles, and the Kathmandu Upateka Khanpani Limited also has not completed the shifting of underground pipes. So, the construction of widening of the ring road will start on June 1, 2013, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.
The Government of the People’s Republic of China has been providing the Government of Nepal with Rs 3.75 billions in grant for widening this portion of the Ring Road. Two hundred Chinese engineers and workers have been in Nepal. The widening of the Ring Road will be completed in 40 months.
On December 12, 2012, the then Ministry of Physical Planning and Works had reached an agreement with the Shanghai Construction Group Company Limited of China for widening this portion of the Ring Road. Two years ago, the Government of Nepal had proposed the then visiting Chinese Prime Minister Hu Jintao for the grant assistance of China for constructing this road.
