Declaration Of Federal Autonomous States

Issue 50, December 13, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On December 10, 2009, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that his party will go ahead declaring thirteen autonomous states on December 11, 2009 as planned saying such a declaration is in accordance with the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 despite the opposition of the NC and CPN-UML leaders.

In an interview given to the reporter of the state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’, one of the Deputy Chairmen of UCPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidya Koran has said that the declaration of Federal Autonomous States is only for putting pressure on other political parties as they have been delaying in declaring such states and in writing a new constitution. He has also said that leaders of other political parties in the past agreed on declaring Nepal a federal democratic republic only after the Maoists declaring it.
