Army Integration Special Committee Takes Up Monitoring Of PLA

Issue 01, January 02, 2011

BY KTM Metro Reporter

January 1, 2011: The government headed by officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has written a letter to the UNMIN stating that Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) will take up all the tasks UNMIN has been doing in Nepal after it leaves Nepal on January 15, 2011. The letter signed by Secretary Bimal Prasad Wagle has stated that after the departure of UNMIN, AISC will take over all the tasks UNMIN has been doing in Nepal following the Articles 146 and 147 of the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007. The letter has also stated that the two parties mentioned in the Clause 10.5 of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement the government has reached with the UCPN-Maoist is no more relevant in the current context, the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ writes.

At the same time, speaking at the talk program on "The New Constitution And The Role Of The Muslim Community" held by Muslim Mukti Morcha (MMM) in Kathmandu today, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has charged the officiating government with attempting to derail the peace process refusing to extend the term of the UNMIN, and has doubted the successful completion of the peace process and writing of a new constitution, and has accused the officiating Madhav-government of unilaterally turning over the tasks of the UNMIN to AISC, nepalnews.com and ‘The Himalayan Times’ online write.

Talking to reporters at his residence, President of NC Sushil Koirala has said in Biratnagar today that the integration of two armies will not have any problem after UNMIN leaves Nepal on January 15, 2011, as the Nepalese political parties have the capability of handling the integration and management of People's Liberation Army (PLA) combatants. "For this, the UCPN-Maoist should act responsibly being the biggest party," ‘The Himalayan Times’ online quotes Koirala.
