Marking 36th Memorial Day of Pushpa Lal and 32nd Of BP Koirala

Issue 30, July 28, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 22, 2013: with various activities, the concerned party activists have marked the 36th Memorial Day of Pushpa Lal today and the 32nd Of BP Koirala yesterday elsewhere in Nepal. Political leaders took the opportunity of these days to express their opinions about these two tall political figures in Nepal.

Pushpa Lal was one of the founding fathers of the Communist Party of Nepal. He had put forward the idea of the communist and the congress people jointly fighting against the feudal lords in Nepal. He had to face wild criticism from the communists for this idea. However, his idea was implemented in 1990 to tear down the Panchayat, and repeated it in 2006 to do away with the monarchy forever.

BP Koirala was the first elected prime minister of Nepal. He had served eight-year jail term along with his colleague Ganesh Man Singh for being the elected prime minister. He would have been one of the finest politicians in Nepal if he were not to make mistakes such as accepting the agreement between the king and the Rana prime minister in 1951, then not holding the elections to a Constituent Assembly while he was serving as a home minister in 1950s, then weakening his party allowing the NC leaders and cadres taking undue benefits from their positions while he was a prime minister in 1959, and finally not launching a joint movement with the communists against the monarchy rather saying he was conjoined with king Mahendra at the neck.
