Drinking Water Entrepreneurs Call Off Protests

Issue 27, July 7, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 1, 2013: the state-run company called “Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited” has hardly been able to provide the people with drinking water once a week. The private entrepreneurs have been filling the gap between the demand and supply of drinking water in the Kathmandu Valley. However, the government instead of supporting the private entrepreneurs for efficiently providing water has been squeezing them applying taxes on water.

The government’s main job is to check the quality of water the private entrepreneurs have been providing, and to see whether the private entrepreneurs have been exploiting the common folks taking the advantage of the government’s inability to provide sufficient water.

However, the government does not care about its duty but has been smart to steal some rupees from the pockets of the private entrepreneurs in the name of taxes. The consequence has been the private entrepreneurs have gone on strike, and the water supply has been stopped for some days causing immense troubles to the people. However, the water entrepreneurs have called off the indefinite protests after the government agreed to take the demands of the water entrepreneurs seriously.
