International Community Welcomes A New Deal

January 16, 2011: in a statement issued in Kathmandu by the British Embassy on behalf of the international community comprising diplomatic missions of Australia, Canada, Denmark, EU, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, UK and USA has welcomed the three-point deal the government and the UCPN-Maoist has reached on Friday, January 14, 2011 on assigning the tasks performed by the UNMIN to the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) and to deploy eight-member joint team compromising two members each of Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Maoist army to monitor arms kept in containers of seven Maoist cantonments and the Nepal Army Barrack in Chhauni.

“Our countries reaffirm their full support for the peace process and request all parties to continue to respect and uphold the peace agreements. As UNMIN departs and the deadline for completing a democratic, inclusive constitution approaches, it is all the more important to show restraint while making fresh efforts to reach consensus,” the statement says.
