September 3, 2011: in a statement issued on September 1, 2011, one of the vice-chairman of UCPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidya ‘Kiran’ has said that turning over of the keys of the containers that have stored the arms of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) is against the party decision. The cadres following the order of Vice-chairman Vaidya have enforced the shutdown of the vehicular traffic from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Friday. They also have held a march holding torches in their hands in the evening.

In another statement released on September 2, 2011, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that the turning over of the keys of the containers is following the decision of the party. He also has appealed to the party cadres, PLA combatants and the people in general to remain calm.

Talking to the human rights activists that have been scared by the provision made in the four-point deal the UCPN-Maoist has reached with UDMF for withdrawing the criminal cases, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai yesterday has said that he would set up ‘Truth and Reconciliation Commission’ following the Comprehensive Peace Agreement to bring the perpetrators of human rights violence to justice.

In a memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Friday, Members of the Women Caucus of the Legislature Parliament have demanded to include at least 33 per cent of women in his cabinet and all the constitutional bodies and the National Planning Commission (NPC). Vice-chairman of NPC and some its members have quit the office paving the way for the prime minister to appoint the persons of his choice.

In a meeting held yesterday, UCPN-Maoist and UDMF leaders have agreed on adjusting the ministerial portfolios going beyond the previously agreed upon for accommodating the wishes of all leaders and paving the way for Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai to expand his cabinet soon.
