Five Main Agenda Of UCPN-Maoist

Issue 40, October 6, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 30, 2013: speaking to the reporter of ‘The Rising Nepal’ yesterday, leader of UCPN-Maoist Narayankaji Shrestha has said that his party has the following five main agenda, according to the news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’

“We will push forward mainly five issues as party's poll agenda.”

The first will be about the model of democracy. We will put forward an advanced form of democracy, for the people-oriented federal democratic republic that will be inclusive, participatory and proportional representative. We want a better form of democracy higher than the traditional parliamentary democracy but a little lower than the new people's democracy. As the Constituent Assembly will make the new constitution that will guide on the form of governance and the socio-economic structure, we will push for the new model of democracy, people-oriented federal democratic republican system.

The second agenda is about maintaining national independence. We have to achieve full national independence by safeguarding our national sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence, national self-respect and image. To this end, our programs will focus on consolidating internal national unity, ending imperialist and expansionist external intervention and canceling all unequal treaties and agreements.

Federalism is the third main agenda. We will move forward the federalism with identity. While doing this, it does not mean that we will embrace identity exclusively. Both identity and capacity are the bases of federalism or main criteria for making federal units, and we will embrace both of them.

The fourth thing is about national economy. We are for prosperity with social justice. We want development of national capital, production of power, intensification of industrialization and prosperity. Our focus will be on achieving people-oriented prosperity means prosperity for the maximum number of people.

Lack of political stability and peace has been a very big barrier to development work. This has been so because of the lack of full majority to a political party to form the government.

In this connection, our fifth agenda will be getting full majority to our party so that we can form a government and two-thirds majority to progressive, change-loving forces so that we can promulgate a progressive constitution.

Besides these, we will also put forward agenda of referendum, to not write anything as unchangeable in the constitution, right of people to recalling the elected people's representatives, revolutionary land reform, proportional representation of workers, farmers and poor people, special rights to women, the dalit and the Muslim.
