Celebrating ‘Loktantra’ Day in Nepal

On April 24, 2009, the Government of Nepal celebrated the ‘Loktantra’ Day. On this day in 2006, Nepalis in the political movement forced the former king to reinstate the dissolved parliament. During the last three years, Nepalis moved from the dictatorial dynastic rule to the Federal Democratic Republic.
President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Prachanda, Chief Justice, Speaker, heads of constitutional bodies, top state officials, security chiefs and various dignitaries attended a special function held by the ‘Fourth Loktantra Day Celebration Committee’ at Tundikhel in Kathmandu on the occasion of celebrating the ‘Loktantra’ Day.
Addressing the special function held at Tundikhel on the occasion of the ‘Loktantra’ Day, Prime Minister Prachanda appealed to all the political parties to cooperate on concluding the ongoing peace process to a logical end and crafting a new constitution. He said, “The future generations will not forgive us if we fail in fulfilling these two responsibilities.”
