By KTM Metro Reporter

May 20, 2012: Talking to a Kathmandu based news channel, Chairman of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), Raj Kumar Lekhi, on Sunday said that the nefarious groups turned otherwise the peaceful demonstration held by the Indigenous Nationalities Joint Struggle Committee (INJSC) in the Kathmandu Valley and other parts of the country demanding identity-based federalism today according to the news posted on nepalnews.com today.

Chairman Lekhi accused the police deployed to maintain the law and order during a shutdown of Nepal of not taking any actions against the people engaged in vandalism, arson and other provocative acts particularly against the reporters and their vehicles.

“As reports of protestors misbehaving with journalists and vandalizing press vehicles started coming in from various parts of Kathmandu, NEFIN issued a statement in which it accused the police team deployed to oversee security in the Valley of arresting NEFIN activists involved in peaceful demonstration in Chabahil, New Baneshwor, Satdobato and Kirtipur while deliberately turning a blind eye to the vandals who set ablaze press vehicles, attacked journalists and engaged in other provocative acts in the garb of bandh organizers” nepalnews.com reports.

In statement the UDMF leaders have voiced solidarity with the NEFIN that has called a shutdown of Nepal on Sunday, and strongly criticized the government for not maintaining the law and order during the shutdown according to the news posted on Myrepublica.com today.
