Feedback Collection From Common Folks

Issue July 2015

KTM Metro Reporter

July 20, 2015: The two-thirds-majority political parties have totally ignored the ethnic, Madheshis, and women’s rights even given in the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007. So for that reasons, the preliminary draft constitution was a regressive not progressive document.

The Koirala administration had declared the two-day (July 20 & 21) state holidays across the country for collecting feedback from the common folks on the preliminary draft constitution. Presumably, the copies of the draft had reached the common folks even though a number of villages had complained that they had not yet, according to the media reports.

So, the members of the constituent assembly had reached their concerned constituency to collect the public opinions and suggestions on July 20, 2015. Some political leaders had faced the wrath of the cadres of their breakaway parties. They had to come back to Kathmandu leaving the feedback collection work to somebody else in their respective constituency. Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat became the target of petrol bombs that certainly missed the target.

Some Nepalese media had clearly and actively engaged in the anti-federalism, and anti-secularism publicity highly exaggerating the feedback opinions against the federalism, and secularism. These media obviously had been fuelling the political chaos and political instability in the vested interest of the people dreaming to push the country back.

The Committee on Citizen Relation and Public Opinion Collection had requested the interested common folks to send their feedback via other digital, telephonic and postal channels if they could not reach the feedback collecting teams, and if they were to find inconvenience in attending the feedback meetings. The committee published the website, email address, telephone numbers, fax and post box number in the state-run newspaper ‘gorkhapatra’ for sending the feedback

The feedback collection had been chaotic, and repulsive on July 20, 2015 because the ethnic and Madheshi people and women had lost many gains they had made even in the Interim Constitution of 2007. So, anybody could imagine what would happen at the time of proclamation of a new constitution.
