Issue 45, November 6, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 3, 2011: a Tibetan woman in her 30's has attempted to burn herself yesterday to protest the Chinese rule in Tibet according to the news posted on the rfa.org (Radio Free Asia). Nepalese authorities have stepped up a crackdown on Tibetan refugees after such an attempt on self-immolation in Nepal.

The woman was about to pour kerosene on her body and to set fire on herself but the intervention of her colleagues stopped her from self-burning at a protest rally held at the Jawalakhel Tibetan settlement in Lalitpur.

After the attempted self-immolation, the Nepalese police have stepped up crackdown on the Tibetan exiles in Nepal, and have stopped any attempt on the free Tibet movement rally in Nepal. The government of Nepal follows the one-china policy means Tibet and Taiwan are the integral parts of the Peoples’ Republic of China. Following this policy, the government of Nepal has been denying the Tibetan exiles in Nepal the fundamental human rights to stage a peaceful protest rally in Nepal.
