By KTM Metro Reporter

September 17, 2011: following the Disable Protection and Welfare Act of 1982, disabled people are entitled to free education but they have continued to pay for the education at schools and colleges; the government has totally failed in enforcing the law even after the Supreme Court of Nepal has instructed the government to enforce the law in 2000. ‘The Rising Nepal’ of September 16, 2011 writes.

Following the law, the private schools and colleges must provide the disabled people with free education not to mention the state educational institutions. However, disabled people even though they are poor forced to pay tuition fees at schools and colleges.

However, Under-Secretary to the Education Department Jaya Prasad Lamsal "The government has also been providing full scholarship with facilities of boarding houses to the disabled students who have had difficulties in moving from one place to another," ‘The Rising Nepal’ quotes Lamsal.

Mr. Lamsal has said that the government has divided the disabled people into four categorizes; A, B, C, and D. The disabled students of the category A receive scholarship ranging from Rs. 1700 to Rs. 2,000, of B needing others’ help to reach schools receive Rs 5,000, of C needing the wheelchairs and clutches Rs 3,000, and of D with simple disability get Rs. 500.
