Finance Ministry approves salaries to PLA

On Tuesday, August 12, 2008, the Ministry of Finance approved the salaries to Maoist PLA combatants for the last 14 months according to Nepalnews.com Aug 13 08. They have been living in cantonments since the peace deal between the government and the Maoists. The Ministry has approved Rs 84 million for the purpose. Each of the 19,618 PLA combatants will receive Rs 42,000 at the rate of Rs 3,000 per month. Ministry for Peace and Reconstruction had sought the approval of the Ministry of Finance to pay the salaries to the combatants. According to spokesperson for the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction, Shyam Sundar Sharma, the ministry would pay the salaries to PLA combatants within this week.
