President Extending Deadline For Forming A Government

Issue 01, January 6, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

January 5, 2013: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav today extended the deadline for forming a consensus government to January 9, 2013 after the political leaders failed in reaching any agreement on forming a new government before the deadline ended today. As usual, leaders of the political parties rushed to the President’s office and request the President for extending the deadline once again.

The ruling parties have said that the current government should be transformed into a consensus government the opposition leaders joining in it or agree on a package deal before getting the leadership of the government. They have also said that the elections to a CA in April-May have been next to impossible, as the political leaders have failed in reaching an agreement on a consensus government.

The opposition leaders have been putting pressure on the President to discharge the prime minister and nominate a new one: Sushil Koirala in particular no matter what the Interim constitution says but the president has been telling them, “I am not stepping out of the constitutional boundary.”

The NC and the CPN-UML leaders have been saying the president has not been doing his job because he has not dischargedthe prime minister going beyond the constitution. This is what the so-called democratic leaders that have promised the people to safeguard the democracy and went on to say they would not compromise on the principles of democracy.
