By KTM Metro Reporter

October 23, 2013: following its planned struggle events, the ‘united senior citizen struggle committee’ held a rally of the senior citizens at Nayabanesewor in Kathmandu on Sunday demanding Rs 3,000 monthly allowance, free medical treatment, and 50% reduction in the public transport, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of October 21, 2013. Currently, they are receiving Rs 500 per month. They say that it is not sufficient even for teas for a month.

Following the Senior Citizen Act of 2006 (2063), the government needs to set up ‘senior citizen welfare committees’ from the center to every village Development Areas for monitoring the social security of senior citizens and then for formulating the policy on the senior citizen social security.

The government has set up a ‘senior citizen welfare committee’ at the center and one each at districts but these committees have remained inactive, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of today. So, the problems of the senor citizens have remained as they are.
