Supreme Court Quashes 17 Cases Against Chairman Regmi’s Appointment

Issue 36, September 8, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 6, 2013: the Supreme Court of Nepal has quashed 17 out of 24 cases filed by different individuals including the advocates Chandrakant Gyawali and Omprakash Aryal against appointing Khilraj Regmi to the chairman of the Interim Election Council of Ministers (IECM) following the 25-point Removal of Hurdles ordinance issued by the president, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

The petitioners have stated that the appointment of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal Khilraj Regmi to the chairman of the IECM is unconstitutional, and the president has issued the 25-point Removal of Hurdles Ordinance overstepping the constitution.

Advocates Chandrakant Gyawali and Omprakash Aryal complained that the Supreme Court squashed the cases without giving them an opportunity of pleading at the court. They also said that such a practice goes against the judicial principles.

The Supreme Court is going to hold hearings on the remaining seven cases.
