Deal On Minimum Wage And No Strikes

October 1, 2011: Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai yesterday has brought the employers and employees together and settled their differences. Both the parties have agreed on the minimum wage and no labor strikes at least for four years giving the industries and businesses a chance to run smoothly.

They have set the minimum wage at Rs. 6,200 following the provision made in the law and published in the national gazette. They have also agreed on not going on strikes for four years and on the provision for ‘no-work, no-pay.’

The Prime Minister has instructed the officials to set up a mechanism comprising the representatives of government, employers and trade unions at the various levels from the center to the local to oversee the enforcement of the deal the concerned parties have reached, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. The Prime Minister has also instructed the government agencies to formulate laws on social security of workers within three months.
