BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On September 22, 2009, speaking at a program held in Kathmandu to launch a new book on the history of Nepali Congress, former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that he is not for dividing the country into the ethnic groups and not for ‘one Madhesh one province’ at all. He even has said that he has asked the Secretary to the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs when she along with Indian Ambassador recently visited him, “Who am I? They were confused and looked at each other. Then I told them I was born in Madhesh but of the hill-origin; am I not a Madheshi? I would let my body break up but not the country as long as I live.”
Concerning the groups in the political parties he has said that the Maoists have groups similarly the CPN-UML has groups and the Nepali Congress, too. These political parties are the strength of the country. So, they should not indulge in infightings.
He also has said that he is for the British style parliamentary system of governance, the CPN-UML is for it, too. He said, “I told this to Prachanda but later he came up with the presidential system.”
