On December 28, 2007, the office of Auditor General made public the 44th annual report on auditing of the government accounts. The report says that out of the audited amount of Rs 2.2 trillion of the fiscal transactions of the government offices and the organized sectors for the fiscal year 2062/63 (2005/06), Rs 16.98 billion was found to be unaccounted for as reported by ‘The Rising Nepal’ of December 29, 2007. Although the concerned government offices and departments were notified about the amount yet to be audited along with the names of the respective offices to the Ministers and State Ministers of the concerned ministries, the irregularities of Rs 8.14 billion of the previous years remained, the report says. The report further says that the government account has shown the total revenue collected is Rs. 72.28 billion but the auditing of the government offices and the financial details have shown the total revenue of Rs. 71.43 billion making a difference of Rs. 840 million in the government's revenue account. Similarly, the details furnished by the government agencies and ministries showed the total expenditure of Rs. 110 billion, but the report says the figure does not match with the total compiled by the auditor general's office. The report says the government ministries and offices have shown Rs. 152.3 million less expenditure.
