Misuse of Vehicles Belonging To Nepal Electricity Authority

Issue 08, February 21, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On February 18, 2010, staffs of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) have seized the vehicle belonging to the NEA but CPN-UML Leader KP Oli has been using at the time when Mr. Oli has come to collect fuels from the NEA for his vehicle. The NEA staffs have said that they would bring back other NEA’s vehicles former Prime Ministers and corrupt NC leaders such as Sher Bahadur Deuba and Krishna Prasad Bhattarai have been using.

In an attempt to continuing the corruption prevailing at the NEA, Home Minister Bhim Rawal has sent a team of police under the DSP to the NEA to get the vehicle for KP Oli but the staffs of the NEA have not buzzed from their stand on not letting KP Oli and anybody misuse the vehicles belonging to the NEA.

NEA has accumulated Rs 12 billion loss and has not been able to manage the production and distribution of power. Consequently, Nepalis have been facing 12 hours power outage every day. They have power for two hours during the day and 10 hours during the night.

Stopping misuse of vehicles is the first step toward curtailing the widespread corruption prevailing at the NEA, and stopping the corrupt politicians riding the vehicles belonging to the NEA free at the cost of millions of customers that have been paying high prices for power supplied for 12 hours out of 24 hours a day. At the same time, the Minister flourishing in corruption has been mulling increasing the price of power to put additional financial burden on consumers of power for the benefits of the corrupt politicians.
