Resolving Four More Disputed Issues Concerning New Constitution

December 16, 2011: the Dispute Resolution Sub-committee headed by Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has resolved four more disputed issues concerning the fundamental rights yesterday.

Leaders of all political parties have agreed on not making provision for the limitation on possessing the property and the wealth by individuals and companies in the new constitution; the government will pay an appropriate compensation on the land and other assets to be expropriated.

They also have agreed on not mentioning the crimes against humanity, war crimes, and crimes against ethnic killings in the new constitution but to cover by laws.

They have agreed on following the International Human Rights Law Nepal has committed to abide by, and will be mentioned in the portion that explains the fundamental human rights.

At the same time, the Constitutional Committee (CC) of the Constituent Assembly has agreed on making provision for a bicameral legislature in the new constitution.

The number of disputed issues has been reduced to 16 excepting the state structuring issue.
