Issue 50, December 9, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 4, 2012: Deputy Prime Minister holding the portfolio of Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that Head of State: President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai passed over his ministry for meeting with the foreign dignitaries and diplomats breaching the diplomatic code of conducts.

Speaking at the capacity of Foreign Minister, Shrestha told the reporters that both the President and the Prime Minister ‘breached the basic diplomatic decorum and moral code’ bypassing the foreign ministry for meeting the foreign dignitaries and diplomats, and allowing a third person in at the one-on-one meeting.

“Earlier, I had informally requested the President twice to follow the diplomatic code of conduct while meeting foreign envoys. I also urged the prime minister to respect the code of conduct, but to no avail,” said Shrestha. “As foreign minister, I will soon call on the President and lodge a formal protest,” ‘The Himalayan Times’ quotes DPM Shrestha as saying.
