Deadline For Submitting A Drat Constitution Extended
By KTM Metro Reporter
January 5, 2012: the Constitutional Committee (CC) has extended the deadline for submitting a draft constitution to the Constituent Assembly (CA) from January 4 to January 29, 2012 in view of the need for further discussion on federalism, state restructuring, a system of governance, as the leaders of the major political parties have not been prepared to compromise on anything other than their concepts of federalism and a system of governance.
Leaders of major political parties don’t want to take the issues of federalism and a system of governance to the CA and settled by the majority votes, as it would cause conflict in the future. So, they want to build a consensus of all major political parties on federalism and state restructuring, and a system of governance.
These political guys also believe that the extension of the deadline for submitting a draft constitution to the CA will not adversely affect the promulgation of a new constitution on or before May 30, 2012.
UCPN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML and UDMF have different concept of federalism and they have different number and names of states they want to set up. They need to compromise on a best possible federal system and a number of states. Similarly, they have different concepts of a system of governance they want to have. They need to compromise on it, too.
