Building A Republic Memorial Tower

January 6, 2012: Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has been concerned very much with the delay in constructing a republic memorial tower, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

The then Prime Minister Prachanda and his cabinet had decided to build a republic memorial tower on the premises of the Narayanhiti Museum in 2008.

Then, the succeeding most unscrupulous Prime Minister Madhav Nepal decided to shift the republic memorial tower from the Narayanhiti Museum premises to the Peace Park at Tundikhel. Then, Mr. Nepal further took it to the UN Park at Gusingal of Lalitpur, and laid a foundation stone there for constructing it but it was never done.

The republic memorial tower is for highlighting the people killed, injured and disappeared during the people’s movement, people’s war, and the Madhesh movement ‘The Rising Nepal’ writes.

In a meeting with the officials of Department of Urban Development and Building at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday, Prime Minster Dr Bhattarai directed the officials to report to him within seven days the reason for not completing a republic memorial tower even after five years of the establishment of a republic, and to come up with a proposal for constructing a republic memorial tower at an appropriate location and estimated cost of it, ‘The Rising Nepal’ quotes Deputy Director General of the Department Ramesh Singh.
