By KTM Metro Reporter

February 11, 2012: The government officials concerned with the demolition of illegally constructed structures said that the scheduled demolition task for Saturday morning has been suspended until the government makes an ‘organized planning and preparation’ for the demolition work, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

"We are preparing an organized and planned preparations along with the task of collecting final data of houses that were constructed by encroaching the road areas," Geneshraj Rai, Deputy Inspector General at the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, told ‘The Rising Nepal’.

Local people have been protesting the demolition of their houses without providing them with compensation. The government says that the concerned state agency has been tearing down only the structures built encroaching on the roads.

Kathmandu has 1200 km roads out of which 400 km are for widening. The government has been tearing down the structures built illegally encroaching on the roads. However, some politicians have been trying to cash in speaking against the government’s road-widening work.
