Democracy As Claimed By NC and CPN-UML

Issue 04, January 27, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

January 23, 2013: the opposition coalition of the NC and the CPN-UML cadres have enforced the shutdown of the Dailekh district headquarters today to foil the opening of the first district convention of the UCPN-Maoist today. This is what the democracy the NC and the CPN-UML claimed to defend abusing the rights of others to do their regular business.

The NC and CPN-UML cadres more like hooligans than the political workers set fire on the Dailekh district office of the UCPN-Maoist today. They stopped any vehicles coming in going out and stopped business of the common folks in the district headquarters violating the rights of the people to move and work for their daily livelihood. Most probably, the NC and CPN-UML claimed to be safeguarding democracy indulging in such unlawful activities.

The so-called NC and CPN-UML wanted to stop Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda, Vice-chairman-cum-Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, and Vice-chairman-cum-Deputy Prime Minister Narayankaji Shrestha from opening the Dailekh district convention of the UCPN-Maoist today.

Various Student Associations of the opposition coalition have blocked the vehicular traffic in Kathmandu today causing untold troubles to commuters, and abusing the rights of common folks to move without obstruction and hindrance. In the name of defending democracy, the NC and the CPN-UML leaders have incited their cadres to abuse the fundamental human rights of the people in general for meeting their goal of taking the chair of prime minister.

Speaking at the news conference held on Dadeldhura today, Vice-president of NC Ram Chandra Poudel has alleged that the ruling coalition has defamed the democracy, and he has claimed that the protest movement launched by the opposition coalition including his party is for building pressure on the government to hold elections to a CA, according to the RSS news posted on thehunalayantimes.com today. What kind of democracy Mr Poudel is talking about when his cadres went on a rampage elsewhere in Nepal in the name of protest movement.

Speaking at a news conference in Dhangadhi today, Former Prime Minister-cum-senior NC leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said that the nation was facing the current political impasse as Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai declared the election in a unilateral manner bypassing other political parties, according to the RSS news posted on thehimalayantimes.com today.

Responding to the more than one thousand displaced people in the Gorkha district, President of the Gorkha chapter of NC Hari Bahadur Ghale wondered how so many people could have been displaced, as no one has stopped them from returning to the villages. Political parties estimate this number of people registered their names on the list of 'displaced people', hoping to get the government allowance. Meanwhile, a data compiled by the LPC, Gorkha, shows that 88 people have been verified as disabled and injured, 25 are displaced, 378 are dead, nine have been orphaned and 25 others held captive after abduction, according to the RSS news posted on thehimalayantimes.com today.

Where are those human rights activists, lawyers, journalists and civil social society leaders that have been protesting against the prime minister, to protest against the abuse of human rights perpetrated by the opposition coalition of the NC and the CPN-UML in the name of movement to topple the government?
