Election Commission’s Verdict

On July 26, 2009, the Election Commission of Nepal has decided that the Madheshi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) headed by Chairman Upendra Yadav is the legal one. In the heat of argument over whether the MPRF should join the government or not, the MPRF is divided into two factions: one headed by Bijaya Gacchedar for joining the government, and another faction of MPRF headed by Upendra Yadav for not joining the government headed by Madhav Nepal defeated in two constituencies. These two factions formally split into two parties, each claiming for its legality.

The members of the MPRF led by Bijaya Gacchedar has decided to file a case against the decision of the Election commission at the Supreme Court of Nepal and at the same time to set up a new party called MPRF-democratic.
