President Bush to meet Dalai Lama
US President George W Bush said that he would meet the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama in Washington on Tuesday next week a day before the spiritual leader receives the Congressional Medal. The US administration announced that the president and the first lady, Laura Bush would attend the Wednesday's Capitol Hill ceremony that would honor the Dalai Lama with the highest civilian Congressional award.
A spokesman for the Chinese government said that China resolutely opposed the Congressional Gold Medal to the Dalai Lama, and said that China would take it as the interfere in the China's internal affairs. (BBC NEWS)
China has been administering Tibet after forcibly taking over in 1949. Dalai Lama has been living in India in exile after the abortive uprising against the Chinese administration in Tibet in 1959.
