Commercializing Offerings To Lord Pashupati In Kathmandu
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
The state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ in its issue of February 1, 2010 has reported that if you want to make offerings to Lord Pashupati in Kathmandu without standing on a very long line for visiting the lord during the day of ‘shivaratri’: birthday of the lord, you simply need to deposit one thousand rupees in the account of the Pashuspati Area Development Fund at the Nepal Investment Bank or SBI Bank in Kathmandu, produce the voucher to the agent of the Pashuspati Area Development Fund, and go straight to the lord and make offerings to Him.
One thousand rupees is still a high amount for the most of Nepalis having an annual income of not more than $500 about Rs 36,000 a year. So, the Pashuspati Area Development Fund has made the rich people to have an easy access to Lord Pashupati while hundreds of thousands of Nepalis and other devotees coming from neighboring countries such as Bangladesh and India will have to stand on a line for hours before being able to enter the temple during the ‘shivaratri’.
